Why Visit Jūrmala

Unlike crowded Mediterranean beaches, Jūrmala is defined by vast space, soothing pine breezes, and therapeutic mineral muds. The sand is composed of extremely fine, soft quartz that squeaks underfoot when dry. Behind the sand dunes sits a maritime forest of tall Baltic pine trees, shielding over 4,000 historic wooden cottages, Art Nouveau villas, and sanatorium buildings.

Top Things to Do in Jūrmala

1. Stroll the Majori & Dzintari Shoreline

Arrive at Majori Station and walk 5 minutes to the beach. The shore is gently sloping, making it safe for swimming and ideal for long-distance walks or cycling. In the late afternoon, beachside pavilions serve chilled craft cider and smoked fish.

2. Explore Jomas iela (Pedestrian Boulevard)

The lively spine of Jūrmala, Jomas iela is a pedestrian promenade lined with outdoor cafés, ice cream vendors, amber jewellery shops, and open-air summer terraces. It is the best place to people-watch and sample seasonal berry pastries.

3. Admire the Wooden Architecture of Bulduri

Wander down the quiet residential side streets of Bulduri and Dzintari (such as Jūras iela and Ikšķiles iela). Here you will see intricate wooden lace carvings, glass-veranda towers, and colorful timber facades built between 1890 and 1930.

4. Dzintari Forest Park & Observation Tower

Located right next to Dzintari Concert Hall, this protected 13-hectare park features elevated boardwalks winding through 200-year-old pine groves, roller-skating tracks, and a 33.5-meter open-work wooden observation tower with views stretching out to the sea.

Wellness & Baltic Spa Culture

Jūrmala is famous for its natural therapeutic sulfur and mineral water springs. Treat yourself to a day of thalassotherapy, Baltic amber body massages, and thermal sauna circuits at historic wellness retreats such as Baltic Beach Hotel & SPA or Hotel Jūrmala Spa.
